Why York Beach?

For over a century, York, Maine and its legendary beaches have provided spectacular ocean vistas and vacation memories to generations of New Englanders and visitors from across the country and around the globe.

Today, the York, Maine area has truly become a four-seasons resort while retaining its traditional charm and quaint coastal New England atmosphere.

Just one hour from Boston, 45 minutes south of Portland and less from historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Yorks offer peace and solitude, as

well as a wide range of things to do to satisfy every taste! The Yorks rocky southern Maine coast includes York Harbor, York Village, York Beach, Longsands Beach, Short Sands Beach and Cape Neddick.


York Area Beaches

Long Sands Beach

Long Sands Beach is approximately 1.5 miles of sandy beach. In areas of this beach, you'll find surfing and volley ball tournaments. Public restooms are located in the center of the beach where most patrons swim.

York Harbor Beach

Known as the "Locals" beach, York Harbor Beach is great for picknicking in the sand and is great for Tide Pooling. This beach is more secluded and parking is limited.

Short Sands Beach

This quaint family beach is perfect for sunbathing, building sand castles and riding the waves. The sand bar is higher than Long Sands Beach and provides more beach area at high tide.

Visit the Goldenrod and witness a long time tradition. since 1896 the Goldenrod has been making traditional salt water taffy. Observe through the full-view windows the ingredients being mixed, boiled to bubbling, stretched and twisted, then placed on a machine to cut and wrap. The aroma is sure to entice you.

You'll also find many gift shops, restaurants and the Wild Kingdom and Amusement Park containing a full zoo and petting area.

Ellis Park is located in front of the sandy beach and provides a grassy area for picnicking, playing ball and listening to concerts in the Gazebo. Next to the grassy area children will be delighted with the fenced in play yard. Swings, jungle gyms and slides will keep children entertained for hours.

Cape Neddick Beach

Cape Neddick Beach is located further north heading towards Ogunquit, Maine. This beach is very small and low tide exposes sandbars and tidal pools. Parking is limited.
